Hi,
My colleagues outlook is not responding. It just hangs in the splash screen.
she has many folders and rules defined. I want to back up all these info
before i go and troubleshoot outlook.

So the question is how do i back up everything thats in
outlook.(Mails,rules,contacts,diff folders etc) ????

any help or direction would be greatly appreciated..

Windows 2000 professional with outlook2000 installed...

TIA,
sri

I believe you just copy the user's *.pst file.

I have also recently run into this problem. My "user's" email db was 2.1 GB
if you can believe that (actually, it was the prez's db). I had to wait
about 30 minutes for Outlook to finish opening, then turn on Archiving, then
after it archived, Compact the db. Now it's down to a handy 450 MB.

Will *.pst file contain rules, Address book, Contacts information..?

And what steps do u think i should do first to make outlook come up?

The *.pst does NOT contain rules. You have to do an export on the rules to
save them

For the hanging issue -- have you tried starting Outlook in Safe Mode?
If you need help doing so, look at

As far as backing up data goes, the following article will give you a
lot of information about Outlook data and settings files, where they're
stored, what they do, and whether or not you need to back them up:
