I was looking for ways to back up my files. I looked for
the back up files on the applications directory. No such
thing exists on Win XP. I thought about buying some
software for that. A local computer columnist suggested
Retrospect. But, I realized that for the price of this
software I could buy an external hard-drive. I did buy
one. It works fine except, that I have to copy and paste
the files from my internal hard drive to the external
one. This works fine until it finds some file that is
being shared with other applications. that is what the
message says. Then it stops copying the files. What do
you suggest? Should I still buy a backing up softare
program? If so, which? Thanks,

Raul

Xp does come with a backup utility. It just isn't advertised. Look on
the CD - I think it is in Valuetools, or some folder like that. You
could even do a search of the cd for backup. It is an msi file type.
Just double click on it to install.
