I received a new notebook running Vista business, and I took out the HD of my
old notebook (XP) to use it as an external HD. I put it into an external
enclosure and it works fine. Now I need to move the files on that HD to
another medium (DVD). Is there a way in Vista to create a disk image on DVD
of a HD that is not the C: drive? Ideally I would like to back up the HD to
DVD so that in case I need it again, I can restore the HD to it's present
state, put it into the laptop and boot up the laptop. If that is not
possible, I would like to simple get access to the files on the HD. Does
Vista provide that possibility? I tried the backup and restore center, and it
did not give me any options, just started to backup all files on the computer
(C:) to the external HD. Are there options to use that applet to backup
everything on drive F: to DVD?

Vista cannot image........do a google for Acronis True Image...it can and
will Image an external HD to a DVD..it can and will restore that image
without the need of an OS being loaded...........it can and will backup to
any device....

With Vista Ultimate you can image the c: drive (or wherever your o/s
resides) plus other hard drives including external hard drives. I don't know
if you need Service Pack 1 to do this. You use the full backup to do this.
