It appears that this post is just an invitation to spend more money on an addition to Front Page to achieve what I want????? surely that should not be necessary

Why do you think that you would need to spend more money?

If you have FrontPage Server Extensions installed. Visit the site using
Internet Explorer, choose Edit with Microsoft Office FrontPage from the File
drop down menu. You will be prompted for your user name and password. Once
open, PUBLISH to your hard drive folder.

Sorry , a misunderstanding, only when I clicked on the url in his message I
pulled a Bot?? screen which was offering add ins for Front Page. therefore im
amswer to the question NO I couldn't open the remote web site because it was
greyed out and that is why I started this chain with the question I did

Hi Chuck thank you, Being a bit green at this all I know is I loaded the full
front page disk but cant find "server extensions"
The way I proceeded was to go to my website,>under edit I clicked on Select
All < at the next page I selected Edit with Microsoft Front Page and the
index page comes up with no borders. So I clicked on Format and shared
borders is greyed out in the drop down box.
From Help I got instructions on how to add Borders to the format menu by
going to tools>Page Options>authoring Tab Selected both Author Time web
components and the shared borders box and clicked OK...On my return to the
drop down format box the shared borders facility is STILL greyed out.....Stan

Chuck, Further to my last entry I found out I was entering Front page from
the wrong direction as previously described. By opening Front Page first and
then entering the address of the site of my computer then clicking on Index
html I get the whole page up with borders included and I am really chuffed
Thank you all for your patience with a 76 year old silver surfer. I got
myself into that mess because I upgraded to XP and purchased Front Page 2003/
The web site I am controlling (or trying to) is www.windsor
club.freeserve.co.uk which is a bit pear shaped atm but hopefully now. I can
repair it...Thanks each once again
