Could someone please tell me where I find my e-mails on
the C drive, so that I can back them up to a disk. In
Windows 98, I would go to Windows, Application Data,
Identities, etc. but apparently it does not work this
same way with Windows XP.
Thank you very much!

Same here, now under documents and settings, your profile.............

C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{0AC2B91A-9E99-4A22-869D-F589B80F2EDE}\Microsoft\Outlook
Express

Hi, Gail!
Why don't you use Outlook Express Freebie Backup from
http://www.oehelp.com

Your quota has been exceeded on your ISP so I couldn't respond
directly........

Hi Gail
As a precaution to users, good ole Mr. Softie had certain view options
disabled. Open your file explorer, click on tools, folder options, views and
under hidden files and folders, make sure the check mark is in front of
SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS. Close everything out and you should now be
able to find what I told you. You can leave your system this way but you
have to be a little more conscious of what you may be deleting

Doug:
First of all, I didn't mean to reply (via e-mail) but
instead wanted to "post reply" as I am doing now. Duh!
Anyway, I think I have some explaining to do. As I
said, I am new to Windows XP which came with this new
computer I just recently purchased. By stumbling through
and trying to get to know my computer, I think I just
realized that my default mail client is MSN, not Outlook
Express. I'm sure it is something I did during initial
setup(?) Anyway, I hate to bother you with all of these
questions, but is it okay to keep MSN as my default mail
client? And, if so, let me guess, there is a whole other
way of trying to find and back up my e-mails. By the
way, yes my view option was disabled and that did work,
sort of. But, for some reason I still can't seem to get
anywhere once I get to Identities. Any suggestions?
Thanks for all of your help so far! It's nice to find
someone willing to take their time to help.
Gail

First as an example .....

C:\Documents and Settings\Doug\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{0AC2B91A-9E99-4A22-869D-F589B80F2EDE}\Microsoft\Outlook
Express

The above path is what and where you would find/use to view your OE mail
files. Once you got to identities and there were no more subfolders, that is
probably because you are using MSN's email client and not OE. You can use
either one and change to either one at anytime, it is up to you.

You are probably correct in assuming that MSN has a different filing
structure than OE. I have never used MSN. Do not be afraid of searching your
system for a folder name you may have setup in MSN. As usual, be careful you
do not delete anything unintentionally and it never hurts to back up your
data first.

There are other forums that deal specifically with your issue. Maybe you
could peek in one of those. Keep me posted

I am going from a Windows 98SE computer to a new XP computer and was
wondering if I could use this program to transfer all my OE setting to the
new computer. I have played around with the program a bit, but I am not
clear how to do a restore. When I hit restore all identities it just puts a
window with backup folders, but does not actually let me select anything.

That is correct. Save those files somewhere safe, install XP, open OE and
import all the data within those saved folders.
