Are there any white papers or Q articles out there
regarding backing up and restoring Domain Controllers.

Derek,

The following articles may be of assistance:

216899 Best Practice Methods for Windows 2000 Domain Controller Setup
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=216899

263532 How to Perform a Disaster Recovery Restoration of Active Directory on
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=263532

Those articles go into some detail on backup/restoring AD. You might want
to test a backup and restore to verify it functions as planned. If you are
restoring to another machine than which the backup was taken from, you want
the hardware to be as similar as possible. If it is Dis-similar, the
following article may be of help.

263532 How to Perform a Disaster Recovery Restoration of Active Directory on
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=263532

Hope that helps!
