Hi

I have a windows 2000 domain, on this domain i also have exchange 2003
running on a windows 2000 OS. The problem that i have is i need to upgrade my
DC to windows 2003 server by performing a clean install, however if i do this
the exchange server will not recognise the new domain and i know from the
past that even by rejoining it to the domain the exchange server does not
work.

So how can i perform a clean install on the DC but keep all of the old AD
attributes, i am fairly new to this so please go easy on me.

Thanks In advance

John

Not clear as to why you would need to do a clean install of AD. Exchange
2000/2003 holds user info in AD so you can't do a clean install. If you
would like to rebuild the current dc then promote a second server to be a dc
and demote the first dc (All fsmo roles should be gracefully transferred)
wait a day (I'm cautious with replication) and then rebuild the first dc and
repromote it. You could then demote the second dc but for fault tolerance I
would leave them both up.

If you want to move the FSMO roles back to the first dc follow
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;255690&Product=win2000

Also before you demote the first dc make sure you promote the second dc to a
global catalog server by:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;313994

Hope this gives you some help.
