I'm running Windows XP Pro and I'm about to reinstall Windows from
scratch, but I have about 20 GB of files I want to save. I'd rather
not spend forever copying them to CD-R. Will Norton Ghost or
PowerQuest DriveImage help me in this regard? (My TCP-IP is corrupt
in this Windows installation, so I don't need to copy my Windows
settings.)

Part 2 of the question: I have another partition running Windows ME,
which is the only way I have Internet access. However, this is not
the partition with the files I need to save. If I remove this hard
drive and install it in another machine running Windows XP,
"piggybacked" as a slave drive, can I drag the contents of the XP
partition from the slave drive to the master drive? Which partition
will the host computer see?

Thanks to all for any help!

Yes. I backup my C:\ OS, & D:\ programs regularly to an f &
g
partition on a separate hdd with ghost.

absurd amount of data...start by getting rid of the useless files......stop
being a pack rat....or just get another LARGE HD for all that junk you
collect...

Yes, you can do either of the things you suggested. If you used Ghost (for
instance), you would make an image of the partition you want to save and
save it to different partition. It would take about 12 gig of space. Then
you can select files to restore from that image at any time. They can be
restored to any location, not necessarily where they originated.

If you decide to put it in another computer, remember to set the jumpers so
it will be recognized by the BIOS in the new computer.
