Backgrounds

I am having trouble when copy slides from on presentation to another. It is not keeping the original background. Every slide is being copied over with a white back ground. Is there some place in the options that I need to uncheck to prevent this from happening. Or do I do something else. I would like to keep the slides with there original backgrounds
