Can anyone suggest how I can correct the following problem? I used FrontPage
03 with its wizard to create the website. I am trying to include a jpg as a
background and I follow the following path-format-background and page
properties pops up.

The background options are greyed out. Their is a message on bottom " page
has theme applied. some settings not applicable. Any way to insert the
background?

it sounds like you are using a theme already. Using a theme removes this
option. You can either customize the theme or remove it all together and
format the page manually.

You can't insert a background while using a theme, since the theme would
have its own specific background.

I'm fairly sure if there are ways around this by making a copy of the theme,
and changing the theme's background for your own, effectively making a
'custom' version of that theme.

This is done (I think) through Format > Themes or similar option. Since
the themes use CSS, it should also possible to edit the CSS directly by
opening the CSS files in Frontpage, so you can specify the background you
want. Save the new theme back to the themes folder in a separate folder
with a name easily identified as the custom theme.

Then unapply the current theme and apply the customised version.

This is all guesswork, other members here could probably confirm the above,
or explain it better as I don't use the FP themes.

yes
you'd have to change the theme's bg image - can be tricky
though...personally i think it's not worth the effort.
