background processes

My computer has 60 background processes. I have been told that I should only
have about 30. All of them came from somewhere, either hardware or software
that was added. So 1) how do I know which ones should go and 2) how do I
make them go and not come back? For example, I had realtek audio drivers for
the onboard sound and replaced them with a SB audigy card. I deleted realtek
from the programs file, but still find a realtek program running in the
background.

You have been told wrong. 60 is by no means unusual, nor does it
represent a problem.

My advice is to leave all this alone. You are much more likely to
create a problem than to solve one. "Don't fix what ain't broke."

Dont believe what you have been told, that could get you into trouble and
leave you with a none functioning system

Deleting a program file, if thats what you did, is the totally incorrect
method to remove it
60 background proccesses is no big deal
