The problem is probably due to the fact that the images that you are downloading are of too low a resolution (too small) to fit to the size of your screen. When you use a picture as a background, you want the original file to be equal-to or larger than your screen resolution. For example, if your desktop's resolution is set to 1024x768 and you download a picture that is 640x480 it will not scale well when blown up to full-screen. Normally it will either be blurry or you will see JPEG artifacting
To contrast, if you have a picture that is 1024x768 or larger (say 1280x1024) it will look great. That is because the picture is at least the size of your desktop
Now, if you choose a picture that is large enough, but has a different aspect ratio (the ratio of length to width), the picture will show up OK, but will have borders on two sides. If this occurs, don't use the "stretch to fit" option, as it will distort the picture
