I don't know where it came from but all of a sudden over
my speakers there is music playing, pleasant but it runs
over all other sound programs and I cannot find how to
shut it off. Very annoying and I do not know where it came
from....a musical virus...that will drive me nuts.

Any ideas on how to rid myself of this ?

thanks

You should post some info on you rhardware. Here are some
of the more obvious items to check:

* Is there a music CD in the drive? If so, take it out and
find the program that may play it.

* Look in the task manager if there is any instance of
Internet Explorer or any other browser running. Some pesky
internet ads run in the background with a 1-pixel browser
window or such. Block pop-up ads!

* Do you have a TV or FM tuner built-in? If so, and if it
is not the tuner itself, you may be picking up a local
radio station across your wiring. Sound that's not clear
is most likely of that kind.

* Log off and log on again while holding down the SHFT key
to prevent programs from starting - still there? Look into
your HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\RUN registry key to
see if something is starting up.

One thing to check would be if you have themes loaded on your system.
Themes will play music based on certian actions you take. If you roll your
mouse over a link, or click the start button for instance. There are other
actions as well, but that gives you something to check.
