Back in XL02 I was able to have a background colour displayed on a worksheet
which was ignored during printing. I can't seem to find the same facility
in XL2007. Could someone please enlighten me?
many thanks.

Office Button>Print>Print Preview>Page Setup>Sheet.

Checkmark Black and White.

No colors will print.

Is that what you want?

I think OP was referring to being able to select a "color" instead of
only pictures for the spreadsheet background.

Thanks Bob. I misunderstood.

I haven't worked with 2007 much but I know that 2002 and 2003 did not have
"color" as a choice for Format>Sheet>Background so OP must be talking about
something else..

Hi thanks to all, you're a great help to us newbies,
I'm sorry, time must pass quickly, It must have been XL 97 when I last used
background colour rather than a cell colour format. I used the suggestion
of Bob's re fake Paint file and it works great, so simple. Thanks a
million.
(sorry for not answering sooner as I'm still working out how to respond
online. I think its very poor when no thanks is given, eh - everyone
listening out there!!!!!!)

No problem, I have it in 97 but I don't remember in 2000 or 2003, and it
isn't in 2007 of course. Sometimes my memory gets a little fuzzy, <grin>
