Alan Bennett

I recently installed an ew DVD writer and in the process XP stopped
recognising either my existing CD writer nor the new DVD WRiter. I got on
to the MS Knowledge Base and found an article that said this frequently
happens and I have to go into Reigistry and delete a couple of entries. But
first I must back up my Registry using Accessories, System Tools/Backup.
Well I do not have a 'backup' in System Tools and cannot find anywhere in
the help file how to access it or reinstall it if it has got deleted
somehow.
Can anyone help with this please.

Alan,
recognising either my existing CD writer nor the new DVD WRiter

It sounds to me, the problem is with hardware. As this has happened after
installing another IDE device, it may either be due to cables or the jumper
settings. The problem may not the registry (the upperfilters, lowerfilters
key you are referring)
