Hello
I'm in the process of trying to back up my pc info to CD's, and have come
across a proglem.
First of all, can I use DVD's to burn to since it has more space ?

Also, when I back up programs I have downloaded from the internet, when I
check what is in that folder, the "Application" is there, but I tried to
experiment, I uninstalled "X PROGRAM" and then tried to re-install, it
doesn't work.

Is there some procedure I need to take or is this just not possible. ?

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Yes, DVD's will store more data and are more practical. The only
better item is a USB external drive. They are getting cheaper by the
month.

You can't (as a rule) simply *copy* C:\program files\xprogram\files to
backup the application. Whatever item you used to originally install
the program (internet download) is the item you should have backed up or
should be backing up. When a program is installed, it not only
creates the app folder but can install entries in the registry and the
C:\windows folders.
The only item you can backup for these apps is the data it creates, like
maybe a config file, or as in MS Office, the .doc files or .xls files etc.

Yes. But you need a backup program which burns to DVDs.

Also, when I back up programs I have downloaded from the internet, when I

Are you trying to backup the installed program or the downloaded file
you used to install it? You can do the latter, but not the former.
