Windows Vista back up pst on Vista to open on other machines

I have followed all the instructions I canfind to backup my outlook files. I have saved them without encription, and without need for password, however when i atempt to ooen my bakup files on my other machines, running XP or win2000, I get the error message, that I am not authorized to open this file.
help?
