I want to backup Outlook contacts, messages, calendar etc
ideally to a network location so that when the o/s is
reinstalled I can reinstall Outlook with these intact.

It is Outlook 2002 and Windows XP.

Anyone any ideas ?

You can use the Personal Folders Backup feature to archive your email. You can find more details at the following location.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...9F-613D-4182-A973-CD2FA0C691D5&displaylang=en

Each .PST (backup) file contains all of your Outlook folders, including the Inbox, Calendar, and Contacts

This should solve your issue. If you still want to copy the backup file to your network location, here is additional information.

The back up file usually has the extension .PST and depending upon your settings it may be hidden.
The default directory for this file is %windir%\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
If that is the case, please do the following.

Open "My Computer"
Click on "Tools" menu
Click on "Folder Option..." menu item
Click on "View" Tab
Under the "Hidden files and folders" select the "Show hidden files and folders"
And, click the "Apply to All Folders" button in the same tab

This .PST file can then be copied to the network location.

I am closing this issue as resolved. Please let me know if this does not work for you.
Thanks.
