Back to Default Form Style

Yesterday, I played around with some of the different backgrounds, the last
one I looked at was 'Stone'. Now, today, when I create a new form, it is
automatically defaulting to the 'Stone' theme. I can remove the bitmap
background but, despite other settings in 'Tools' >> 'Options', the field
background is the grey of 'Stone'. I don't recall choosing a 'Set as
default' option but my new forms are defaulting to the 'Stone' look.

My 'Tools' >> 'Options' settings look fine, where do I really go to change
the default format?

Hi Karen,

Thank you for using the newsgroup and it is my pleasure to help you with
your issue.

From the information provided, do you mean when launch the Access, and in
the 'Database' window, in the 'Forms' windows, when press 'New' icon, a
'New Form' , when choosing 'Desin View', the new form will create a Form
with back style of 'Stone'?

From my experience, in the Design View, the style background is always
standard. You are right to change the style back style to 'stone', you
could choose the 'picture' property of the form, or the report, and change
to other pictures (when using the wizard and choose the style background,
this property will be set to the path of the picture, the default options
will be the pictures in:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\BITMAPS\STYLES\
(If you installed you picture at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office) and it
is tiled. You could change other options such as 'picture tiling', 'picture
size mode', etc.)

So, are you using the AutoForm? Please new a Form in the Design View, then
choose from the menu 'Format', then choose 'AutoFormat', then from the
windows 'AutoFormat', choose 'Standard' then press OK. Next time, when you
use AutoFormat, you will have a standard style back ground then.

Hope this helps. If you still have questions, please feel free to post your
message here and I am glad to help.
Thanks.

Hi Bai,

I did what you said and for the 'Single form' view, everything is fine BUT
when I go to datasheet, the datasheet cells have a grey background, as they
would in the 'Stone' style. The field background property says that the
background color is white. I'm really baffled at this point.

Bai,

I found it. I noticed that the data view in my tables was also formatted
with the grey background so I decided to right-click the title bar of the
table.

There is a menu item 'Datasheet' and you can format your datasheet from
there. I wonder why I couldn't get to that from 'Tools'>>'Options'?

Hi Karen,

Thank you for your update.

From the 'Tools'-> 'Option' ->'Datasheet', you have change the Datasheet
view. For a Form, there are

For example, Please open the sample database Northwind.mdb. From the
'Tools'-> 'Option' ->'Datasheet', please change the background color to
'Bright Green'; Then in the 'Database' window, choose the 'Forms', the
press the icon 'New'; Then choose 'Form Wizard' and choose Employees from
the dropdown list, press 'Next'; Then select all the fields, then press
'Next'; Then, when the wizard ask you to select the layout of the form, if
you choose the 'Datasheet', press 'Next'; Then choose the 'Standard' as the
style background. Then press 'Finish', you will get a datasheet of the
table Employees and the background is Bright Green. If you open this form
in the 'Design View', choose from the menu, 'View'->'Datasheet View', you
will see that the datasheet is also with a background color of Bright
Green. You could change the view of the Form by:
In the properties of the Form, in the Format tab, there is a properties
named 'Default View'. Beside the option 'Datasheet' , there are other
options which are: 'Single Form', 'Continuous Forms', 'Pivot Table', 'Pivot
Chart'. So, you could choose from them to decide which view would be when
you open the Form. Form the 'Tools'-> 'Option' ->'Datasheet', you just
change the view property of view 'Datasheet'. If you want to change the
properties of the 'Single Form', which is always a default option, you
should change the back color of the Form and the 'Picture' properties of
it. If you use the AutoForm, you should be sure to take the standard
template but not other template.

One thing to add that if you change the option of 'Tools'-> 'Option'
->'Datasheet', the new setting will only affect the new created forms.

Hope this helps

Bai,

Thanks, I will put this in my 'Tips' file.

The process you describe handles new forms.

The process I found helped changed the existing forms.
