I recently heard that I could stop those POP UPs that come
in the 'back door' somehow. My Pop Up stopper doesn't do
it. They come through something to do with IRC even though
I don't have one set up [IRC that is]. Just as my machine
is booting up, all these ADS start showing up and I'm
tired of them.

Any help out there?

Thanks!

Have you tried Spybot. It's free and you can download it
from ZDnet.com. I use it often on client machines to
remove spyware and adware.

Using a firewall and the Google Toolbar stops everything for me. In addition, you
may want to consider hardening your Internet Explorer settings similar to the way
Windows 2003 Server does as described in KB link. It may be a minor convenience at
times when a site not in your trusted zone may not work correctly, but well worth it
to me. --- Steve

If you are talking about messenger-spam then you might want to have a
look at:

But you _should_ install a firewall as well. ZoneAlarm basic is free for
personal use and there are others as well. http://www.zonelabs.com
