back button not allowing me to return to home page

When I go to about 4 sites and try to return to my home page using the back button I get to the very first site and it no longer lets me return to the home page ..I must use the home page button on my Internet Explorer 6.0 browser
Any ideas why this is suddenly happening?
 
There are some sites that break a link, consequently there
are times when you will not be able to get back to the
home page except by using the Home button.

Go to that "very first site" and view source. Do you see something like this
within the <head></head> tags...?

<meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="0; url=http://somehost.net/">

The "0" (zero) refresh time breaks the Back button (i.e., it refreshes faster
than you can hit Back again). You can try bringing up the Back-button history
by clicking the little down-arrow next to the Back button, then selecting the
page you want directly.
