All,

In my small Manhattan apartment I need to place my server near where
the cable comes in. I've tried to figure out a way to relocate it, but
I have no other options due to layout.

Now the problem is that my little baby loves to come over to the server
and has now figured out how to reset it. I think I need a new case,
one that has a lock on the front plate. Does anyone have any
recomendations? I'm dreading reseating the motherboard, so I'm looking
for a roomy case (that will allow my big fingers room to work) that is
relatively simple to work with. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

J

If this is a server as I'm thinking of one, there should be a ATX format
mainboard in it. Right?

Do this:

Reboot, enter the bios setup screens, go into power management, and set it
to turn on after a power failure. That way, it automatically starts as soon
as it is plugged in. Save and exit settings. Now pull the power cord off
the back of the case for about 30 seconds and plug it back in, to verify
that the system will start automatically after a power failure.

Now open up the current case. Disconnect both the power and reset switches,
where the teeny tiny connectors plug into the little pins on the mainboard.
These connectors should be labelled, and the mainboard itself might be
labelled. At worst, you might have to read the mainboard user's manual to
figure out which connectors (2 of them) to unplug from the mainboard. Then
close up the case and plug it in.

DONE! Now baby can hit the front-panel switches all he/she wants to, and
nothing will happen. The ATX system will run just fine with those switches
disconnected. They (power, reset) are just momentary contact switches, they
don't need to conduct current while the system is running. Just remember to
set the BIOS to turn on automatically after a power outage.

In a worst case scenario, if the system locks up, you can pull the power
cord off the back of it for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in. This
will have the same effect as if the Power button was held in for several
seconds to power the system down manually. It will also do for a "reset",
though it's a bit of overkill for that purpose. :) -Dave

Thanks, I was dreading fiddling around with the tiny screws while
reseating. Much better idea.

No problem. I hate to see someone try to change a case when there is
nothing wrong with it. :) -Dave

If your baby was like mine was, why not rent her out
to some construction company as a wrecking ball :-)
