B2TR coversion of ppt 2003 slide master

I have as part of the slide master in a ppt 2003 a text box with a reference
number. When ppt2007 opens, the text box is there. The master slide view does
not allow access to the text, so I have to revert to ppt2003 to edit the
text. This occurs even if I save the presentation as pptx, and not just as a
ppt (compatibility mode).
Any suggestions?
 
It is an additional textbox, as I still use the normal placeholders for slide
number etc.

Thanks for sending the sample slide so quickly, user dan!

You've run into an interesting phenomenon caused by how the new slide
masters and layouts work.

You can change the footer on the "main" slide master-- the one at the top in
master view that governs all the slide layouts below it. Any changes here
(to the slide master) trickle down to the layouts below.

If you need the reference textboxes on only some of the slide layouts,
you'll need to delete them from the slide master and paste them on the
individual layouts.

I know people will run into this as they begin to use PPT 2007. In fact, I
feel another FAQ coming on. :-)
