I download an update for my Asus motherboard which is in the form of an .awd
Can anyone tell me where I can put it, so that I can replace the old one or something. I would greatly appreciate it.

That is a bios flash image. Go to the asus website and read their how to flash your bios procedure.
Bios flashes are not to be taken lightly, you can render your machine a vegetable if you have a problem, so if you have no issues that require that newer bios, leave it alone.
 
If you don't "need" it to FIX something ... then leave it alone.

It's an update for my motherboard so I thought it was necessary to improve my computer.

I have 3 since I bought my MB ... never needed them.

If it aint broke ... don't 'fix' it. ;)
