AVG is useless. I had AVG installed on 6 new
pcs. Before I could patch them, AVG and the
pc's were taken out by Gaobot.ao even though
AVG was the latest. The only solution is to
have XP patches on cd, instead of online
update and to forget AVG.

According to Symantec:
"The Gaobot.ao worm uses multiple vulnerabilities to spread,
including:
The DCOM RPC vulnerability (described in Microsoft Security
Bulletin MS03-026), using TCP ports 135 and 445."
Which would mean that any un-patched, un-firewalled system would be
vulnerable to attack as soon as it is connected to the Internet,
whatever the AV software it is running. NB: AV said:

You could also switch the built-in Internet Connection Firewall
(ICF) on for your Internet connection, then download the patches
for XP from Windows Update.
