At the recommendation of a regular here, I purchased AVS Video Converter
because I needed software to burn AVI files from WMM to DVD. The
product's web site indicates that it burns DVDs. And, in fact, I have
been able to burn a DVD with it. However, I cannot find a way to get to
the DVD burner program without going through a timely conversion that
may not be necessary, such as when I already have the TS_VIDEO/.vob
files on the hard drive. How can I burn a DVD-ready file with AVS Video
Converter without processing the file again?

I ask here because a Google groups search on AVS Video Converter shows
more hits here than anywhere else. Hopefully I have not just wasted
money as these guys don't seem very amenable to refunds.

Both Roxio EMC and Nero will happily write a DVD direct from the VOD
files... you use the Copy a DVD instruction.... and point it to the VOBs on
the hard drive.

Since I've never used AVS, I can't tell you if is has the same feature(s)

I have now purchased Nero 6 Ultra, which includes NeroVision and other
DVD functions. I opened an .mpg file in NeroVision and wrote it out to
the hard drive, where it was saved as .vob and other DVD-appropriate
files. For the first time, after burning the files to one of my
dwindling supply of DVDs, the audio and video quality are as good as the
original file (probably meaning that the file was not transcoded).
However, the audio is lagging behind the video. What gives? It's
frustrating!
