avoid scandisk at reboot by deleting scandisk

I guess I'm getting lazy, but I can't be bothered to shut down
anymore; I just turn the computer off. That brings up scandisk
when I reboot.

I had an idea that if I delete or rename Scandisk.exe I will
be able to boot without scandisk running.

It seems to be working. Has anyone else tried this?

I'm too lazy to use the stairs... I just jump out the nearest window.

im 2 lazy 2 write whole words,

but maybe there's a hard disk crash just waiting to happen -
let's hope you don't turn yr comp off the instant that some disk activity is
performed and you'll be fine

a disk activity independent of your actions, that is, for example:
the os could be shrinking your swap file. if that's the case and you turn
the comp off -
one day yr disk will die

Over the years I've found that deleteing programs is indeed a very
effective way to prevent them from running. Now that you've discovered
this and "let the cat out of the bag" so to speak, surely Microsoft will
soon add to their EULA that you're not allowed to delete anything without
express consent.

The more traditional way of doing what you did (though your way is easier
for those lazy beyond measure), is to either edit MSDOS.SYS, adding the
line under [OPTIONS] to read:

[OPTIONS]
AutoScan=0


Or, for win9x install "tweakui" (Googe search it), and you'll find that
change automated on tweakui's "boot" menu tab.

Depending on your operating system, you may not have had to do that.

Nope...yer the first!

I don't have it kick in either...on some of my machines. But I always
run it manually once a week.

Anyway...rots a ruck! lol
