Is there a way to avoid the reboots required to finish the installation of
various updates & patches?

Hi,

Some updates need to update some system core files. These core files can't
be updated while the system is running. So, the system needs to restart to
update these files.

When the installation of the updates/fixes is completed, you will get the
information window about whether to restart the computer.

You can choose cancel to cancel the reboot.

If you did not chick the Yes or No button in the window, the system will
not restart.

Thanks for using Microsoft News Group!

Sincerely,

Steven Liu

No. The reboots are necessary to remove old versions of files from memory,
so that the new versions can be loaded.

No. It is necessary to finish the installation. "In use" files can not be
replaced without the reboot. --- Steve
