Hi there,

I just add a NAS to my network, i put all my backups on there and would
like to share it over my entire network, i would like the other users
to have read access over those files but don't want to see my file
deleted by those users. The main problem is that my NAS have a lack of
security settings (a simple SAMBA server share) and is using FAT32...

Does someone know how i can limit local user right (using GPedit /
MMC??)

thanks in advance.

Convert it to NTFS.

To easy... But this NAS system does not support NTFS file system...

Any idea?

The ability to use security features require the use of the NTFS file system.
If you do not have this file system, instead use FAT or FAT32, you will be
unable to use the security you are asking for. I am sorry to inform you of
this, as I understand why you want to implement such security, but it simply
is not supported on any file system other than NTFS.

I find it surprising that the NAS wouldn't have SHARE permissions. If it
uses Samba then the underlying technology must support this feature even if
the interface doesn't.

It may be possible, all else failing, to manually modify the smb.conf file.
