Avira free vs premium

Are these two versions equivalent in terms of virus detection? I
presumed that both used the same virus scanning engine but satements
at av-comparatives.org about their results applying to the free
version lead me to ask.

The paid-for version will catch more non-viral malware of the class adware/spyware.

So if I already have good adware/spyware protection (Webroot
Spysweeper), the free version will catch all the viruses that the
Premium version will.
