what is the video file known as avi and how can you view
a file in that format?

Short for Audio Video Interleave, file format for Microsoft's Video for
Windows standard. You shuld be able to view these with your Win media
player and or most popular video viewers... hope this helps, rob
 
media player...didn't you do any research at all on this subject...like a
GOOGLE search, etc.....
 
AVI is a container format. A number of different "codec's" can be used in
the compression of both the audio and video. Download GSpot to determine
what codec's are used in any AVI. Due to the different number of codec's
WMP will not play all of them out-of-the-box. Codec's such as DivX and XviD
require you to download the needed codec for the video and install in on
your machine.

I have to point out that DivX actually SAYS it is spyware on their web site
so I'd be a little careful with that one.
