Hello-

I captured some footage to an DV-AVI file. Is there any way to copy it to a
DVD in the AVI format, or does it always have to be coverted to a mpeg2,4
file?

Thanks

You can copy the DV-AVi file to the DVD-R, but it will play ONLY on a
computer. If you wish it to play in a standalone DVD player, it will have
to be re-encoded to MPEG-2.

Hi there,
You can either treat the DVD disc as a standard storage medium, in which
case you can save your video in any format you have the ability to create
(Depends on what software you have) it will simply be a file on a Digital
Versatile Disc, BUT, If you want to use the disc in the conventional DVD
(Video) mode than you must convert/save using software designed to create
DVD discs.

My drive is a DVD +RW. I only want to put it on DVD because the file is 4GB
in size. I don't want to play it on a standalone dvd player. Whats the best
way to get it on the disk? I attempted to use Pinnacle Studio but it made a
MPEG type conversion. Is there any freeware?

thanks

Hi there,

Yes there is a program called DVD2AVI do a search on the net...its quite a
popular program. I have used it myself and was very pleased with it.
However, remember that if you want to copy protected DVD material, you will
need other software to de-crypt the dvd

Hi there,

Yes, just treat it as a normal file.

In Windows Explorer....

Right click the AVI file and then select COPY, then right click your DVD
drive and select Paste. Windows XP will then copy the file across. I am of
course assuming that you have not disabled XP's ability to write to a
CD/DVD. If you have then you will need a specific program...and my brain is
totally blank at the moment ... can't think of a freeware package (I use
Easy CD from Roxio but that's a commercial package) ...but I am sure someone
will jump in here and give you an idea or two

John-

Thanks for the info. I have Easy CD Creator but its the Basic edition which
doesn't seem to burn to DVD. Hopefully I haven't disabled XP's ability to
write to CD/DVD will check when I get home and report back.

Thank You
PS

There should have been software that came with the DVD drive for
this...Roxio EZCD Creator, Nero, etc. Check to see what you have installed.
