avi files

I have a avi file I want to play , but windows media
player wont play it. I am using windows XP and when I
open the file windows media player start to download a
codec for the file, but then I get an that tells me error
when dowloading codec. please help!!!!
 
You can go to canopus.com and download there AVI
Converter. This changes AVI-1 files to AVI-2 and also AVI-
2 to AVI-1.
