Every .avi file that I play on my computer starts out
playing fine, but then suddenly the visual freezes but
the sound continues on playing without any issues. What
could possibly be causing this to happen? This only
occurs with .avi files no matter what playback utility I
use (i.e., Windows media player, WINAmp, etc).

Any help would be great appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds like you need to download/install some codecs.

Thanks Shenan,
Just more info, the avi's use to work before, but lately
they just stopped. I haven't altered any programs, nor
downloaded any new versions of said programs either. Plus
I don't see any option to update any media options (at
least WINAmp has no "check for updates" option) and I
wouldn't have the foggiest on where to search for it in
Windows Media Player (I looked in preferences and saw no
option for 'check for updates' as well - unless I
overlooked something). Where would I need to check to
find it? Thanks again!

I don't know what version of Media Player you are using but in
Ver 9 just go to tools, options and there is a box to check for
updates.
