Now that I know how to make an AVI file from Movie Maker, does anyone know
how to make it smaller? When I save a 39MBB movie as an AVI it ends up being
1.5GB! Wow!

My goal is to fit the AVI file on a 700MB CD.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

DV-AVI files are that size.... to make a smaller AVI file, you would need to
use other software such as TMPGEnc to take the saved movie and render it to
an AVI file with a different codec.

dvd-r players/recorders are so cheap now why even bother burning it to a
cd-r? Even dual layer players/Burners are really cheap now. Easy to install
and changes your whole out look on storage of disc and even your hard drive.

Anytime you compress or convert you lose a little QC on the picture.

Generally you dont save the DV AVI file to the CD. This can be saved to
DV tape, which would be then watachable via the camcorder/vcr. If you
save the DV AVI file to CD or DVD it will be saved as a data file and
can be played on a computer but not on a standalone DVD player.

To make it playable on a standard DVD player you need to convert the
movie to MPEG2 format and make a "DVD Video". Both of these steps can be
done by using a DVD authoring software such as NeroVision Express (not
"Nero Express"), ULead Movie Factory, Sonic MyDVD etc. Otherwise for
maximum quality one can do these steps seperately using dedicated MPEG2
encoders such as TMPGenc Plus, Cenima Craft Encoder (CCE), or Canopus
ProCoder. The dedicated ones are pricy but you get what you pay for
(they are in business for a reason).
