AVG8 loads avgrsstx.dll inside of each loaded process i.e. in every process
there's a pointer of 4K to avgrsstx.dll (It uses 4K x number of processes).
Why this horrible design in AVG8?

NB. Use SysInternals Process Explorer to see these DLLs injected on all
processes!

If you are unhappy with AVG8, then uninstall it.

Install a robust, comprehensive, security program,
such as Windows OneCare, and you'll not have to
worry about those issues. You can try it FREE
for ninety (90) days. This is a brand new version
and is very robust! Uses very little system resources!

OneCare includes:

-- An excellent antivirus application
-- An excellent firewall application
-- An excellent antispyware application
-- Automatic system tune-ups
-- Automatic hard drive defrag
-- Checks for updates to be sure they are installed
-- Schedules automatic backups of important files
-- New version 2.5 just released - designed to work
exceptionally well with Windows Vista & XP.
-- Compatible with Windows Vista 64-bit versions
-- All-in-one convenient, easy to install application

Lord, Carey you'd think you worked for the company what with these
commercials you keep posting. While OneCare may be better than it was (it
can hardly be worse), it is still not particularly good. In addition it is
rather invasive, you can't install some other antimalware programs, and you
must have a Windows Live account to use it.

Not recommended for all those reasons.

Uninstall it if you don't like it. I haven't recommended it for years. Or
post on their user forums.

AVG Free Support Forum - http://freeforum.avg.com/

My own preferences are for NOD32, Kaspersky, or even Avast if you must have
a free one.

I do *not* recommend Windows Live OneCare.

I'm happy with AVG8, although it has some design flaws
Install a comprehensive, security program,

I don't like the security suites! Too bloated, too intrusive, too useless!
-- An excellent antivirus application

I would like a Free Microsoft antivirus
-- An excellent firewall application

I just use the Windows Firewall
-- An excellent antispyware application

I just have the Windows Defender
-- Automatic system tune-ups
useless

-- Automatic hard drive defrag

I just have the built-in Vista automatic defrag

Inquiring minds would like to know some specifics:

Specifically, why do you say "it is still not particularly good"?

Specifically, why to you say "it is rather invasive"?

Specifically, have you even used/tested the new OneCare v2.5?

Well, I don't think any AVG developers who designed AVG
visit the Windows Vista newsgroups. Did you try to contact
AVG support? Likely not since there is no support for the free
copy of AVG! Shame!

I do believe that you are in over your head (again). She actually
works on computers, while all you do is copy-and-paste replies to
posts here and in the XP groups.

Not at all! I would just like some clarification of
some statements made which were general in nature.

If she comes back with convincing material, will you stop being a
spammer/shill for OneCare???

Sure. I'll even uninstall it from all three of my malware-free computers.
BTW, I'm not a "shill". I only make recommendations based upon my
own personal use and experience with a product.

Also, since I installed OneCare on several friend's PCs who used to
attract malware like a magnet, I've not had a single request to
"come fix my computer" in the past year and a half.

I have never had OneCare on my computer, and I have yet to get a virus
or have my computer infested with malware. And I haven't had to pay
$50/yr to stay that way.

Well Barney, you are a user that apparently is quite
knowledgeable of computing and will take measures
to secure your PC. But what about those users who
are not so computer literate and haven't a clue
about securing and maintaining their PC? I have
several friends who use computer programs better
than I, but cannot grasp the importance of PC security
and safe internet surfing habits. For those folks,
a comprehensive OneCare installation fits the bill!

Cost of OneCare? If you shop around like I do, you
can purchase OneCare from third-party sources such
as amazon.com and get it for $19.99. That's $19.99
for three (3) computers or $6.67 per computer per year!

So for $6.67, I do not have to worry about my friend's
computers not having proper Microsoft Updates, not
having a good antivirus, antispyware or firewall, and not
having a disk cleanup or defrag performed on a regular basis.

If you are unhappy with AVG, try Avast.
Don't touch Live One Care; it is bloated GARBAGE.

http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

Avast Anti-Virus is Vista compatible (32bit and 64bit Versions), FREE,
auto-updating, and a low resources user of your computer.
And, only have 1(one) Anti-Virus installed / running on your computer at any
one time..
Conflicts may occur if you have more than 1(one).

The FIRST year... RIGHT? What about at the end of that year?

Kinda like signing up with the cable company for VOIP phone service
for $9.99/mo with unlimited long distance, but at the end of six
months, watch out for the REAL price.

Still, I don't have three computers, only two. Most folks have only
one.

And virtually ALL of the services available in OneCare are either
already available to me in Vista, or I have third-party software
installed that perform the same tasks as well or better.

Don't need it. Don't want it.

Yes, I've seen what it does (and doesn't do) on clients' machines. I won't
install it.

Malke

Same price if available. You don't have to purchase or renew
a OneCare subscription directly from Microsoft. At the end
of the subscription, simply shop around for the best price for
a new OneCare license.

In other words, there is no subscription contract with Microsoft
and certainly no obligation to renew.

Well, your respond certainly tells us a lot! I guess you're not able to
effectively communicate exactly what OneCare "does (and doesn't do)".

Well in my stand point AVAST has a lot of False Positive as we call it in
the Anti-malware/virus business.

For the AVG user whose having such concern, first download a new installer
go offline just to be sure, remove ( completer removal registry hive and
binary folders ) of your currrently installed AVG8 and then reinstall it
please.

And for the onecare yes I've used it ( Look for me in Onecare Forums ), I
would say its fine, other recommendations would be Kaspersky, Trend Micro
and Bitdefender, but wait up you can have windows defender for free save you
money just stay safe over the web and on downloading.

No Anti-virus can say it can protect you all 100% of it
