Yes, John, I keep getting a silly error mesage to check my settings. I
finally gave up, disabled AVG and installed Avast.

Depends on time of day. I've had good luck timing the update for late
at night or early in the morning their time. They are about 6 hours
ahead of me so I update late in the evening.

Maybe you all could try this. It worked for me!

In Windows Explorer, go to: C:\Windowns\system32\drivers\etc\

Dubbleclick hosts
Choose notepad to open this file

copy the next text: 193.86.103.19 guru.grisoft.com

and close

DONE!

No more troubles with getting your updates.

It's working fine, although I do have to reboot in order to install
them. Otherwise next time I generate a call to see if there's a new
update, I get a message that my update was unsuccessful.

I did make that change a while ago to my Hosts file mentioned by
another poster.

Have it update automatically at a time your computer is usually on. It
will download & install updates even while you're surfing. It gives you
a notice that it downloaded & installed when it's done. Try that?...Jim
