I'm using a program called WorkGroupMail (an small email server).

One of the options is to incorporate an external AV program (or user
defined, which I've never managed to get to work).

The prgrams it 'allows' are

Norton Corporate
Mcafee
Sophos
AVG 6

Now I have a licence for AVG Pro 7, but will it work with my email server. I
don't get any visual indication from the email server when its scanning for
viruses.

Basically are the AVG 6 engines and AVG 7 engines different?

Btw I haven't used AVG for several months, is it any better than it used to
be?

Thanks

Clive

Read my reply on the other AVG subject.
AVG is an ok V Scanner, but it's sometimes not updated as nice
as others. Mcafee is updated more often then AVG is.
Norton has a lot of cool bells and whistles from what I remember
but I cant say how good it is.
I hope that helps you.

AVG7 is updated sometimes more than once a day and is one hell of a lot less
clunky that Mcafee or Norton.
I update manually but a daily auto update is available.
I'm glad you like Mcafee because I can't stand the bloat - all bells and
whistles draining resources.
To be fair all 3 programs do a good job but I'm sticking with AVG for its
lightness of touch and effectiveness.

Hey, I still use AVG 6 Free Edition, I don't really want to pay for a AV if
I don't have to.
That said, AVG was updated for Price & Price2 about 2 months ago, Mcafee was
updated
in 2001.
Your right on the resources thing, I have used 30 Day Mcafee downloads, as
well as,
I have more then one copy of Norton, got them with MB's
My Gigabyte board came with a copy of it, and my Asus AMD board came with
one.
I also got a copy of it with my MSI Combo AMD MB
In all, I must have about four copies of norton floating around.
Speaking of Virus's, I just got an email, one of those faking like a
returned mail.
I downloaded the file and took it across AVG, nothing.
I'm more then sure that the file is not clean.

I have been using AVG7 for a couple of months. Except for the little
problem with the time zone difference thing. (see my post about it)
About e-mail scanning as I understand it .AVG free doesn't look at
e-mail until it is opened. AVG7 scans it as it is incoming. I never
really see anything until an attachment comes in and then another icon
appears in my sys tray indicating that said attachment is being looked
at.
