Hi all,

I just did a manual update for my AVG6 from the AVG update website, and the
file size is only 4KB. In comparison with the others that are at least 400+
and some 800+, this seems like a very small file. Is this perhaps a
situation where these files are just being added as additions to the
previous list information? It just seems a bit strange for it to be so much
smaller.

The update number is u6108gf0, dated 3/2/04 created 5:44:14p

If anyone has information more recent, or could verify the file size I'd
appreciate it very much.

I don't have that 1 on my machine, u6101ze4 88kb from 3/1/04 9:13 pm &
u6108evg 2059.7kbytes from 3/3

But I do have some that are in the 3 - 5 kb range from Jan 04

AVG will release an update even if it only adds support for 1 new
virus whereas other companies such as McAfee or Symantec/Norton will
wait and release an update when they have a larger number of virus
definitions to update. There are pros and cons for both ways. As I
have an "always on" connection I would rather get lots of updates
daily than one larger update weekly as it means there is a longer
"window" where I could get infected. However the daily updates do not
suit everyone.

I had to do a reinstall of my OS last Friday, and then add the whole
wazoolie of updates. This, of course, created some new problems as well. So,
I was not sure if this was right or not. I rarely pay attention to them as I
can usually update from the Control Center, but, have not been able to do so
since Sun. as it won't connect. So, I went to the website and downloaded,
then had to copy over to the Updates folder. That is when I noticed the
large difference. It was the only one I had that small that showed up.

Thank you for your time to confirm, I truly appreciate it.

Oh...I don't mind the small ones, or the number. 'Cause I don't like those
bugs and slugs, or the Swens and Spams. No....I don't like those things at
all.

I just had some recent problems with my computer, so just checking to be
sure nothing out of sync had happened in the download.

Thank you very much for your time to assist. I really appreciate it.

Hi Goosey.......just a quick question for you AVG users. A friend just
called and said she is having a major problem trying to get the latest
downloads........are you finding this to be the case as well?

I use EZ Trust and I have lost count of the definition downloads since the
weekend. (at least 2 or 3/day) I got an email from F-Prot saying that there
were some 7 or so viruses (morphs of existing ones) released over the
weekend, so EZ Trust has been working overtime!!

Just thought I would ask as I will see her later today and while I recommend
AVG to people, I have never used it. So have no idea what all you do to get
them. A simple download like F-Prot??? Whatever it is, she can't get it
to connect from the program.

Thanks......Heather

That is the problem I have had, can't connect to the updater using the
normal update from the AVG Control Center, that is why I had to the manual
download from the website to the AVG Updates folder in order to update. It
happens now and then. But, thank goodness I decided to update last night, I
woke up to a NetskyB in my mail this morning and it got nailed flat. I have
not had one before. I think your friend can also download from the web
instead just be going to the AVG website. They may just be very busy now
with all these new variants popping up all over.

She can get the update here:

But, Geese may have a better solution for us both. :-))

Thanks, Jan.......running out to do some genealogy stuff and DQ will be
there so I will let her know what you said.......just got a further warning
from F-Prot but no time to read it.....names 7 viruses tho. She said
something about not being sure which one to download......6 or 7. I told
her I figured it was 6. Was I right? TTYL.

Cheers......Heather

Yes, if she has AVG6 then it is the 6. ;-)

Updated my F-Prot last night too, but, will check again. Thanks for the
heads up.
