I have AVG anti-virus on my pc, I keep getting a pop up box telling me that I have a virus in C:\system volume..............there is no virus, but I cannot get rid of this pop up box from avg resident shield....Help

Michelle, what virus does it say is there? Manually have AVG run a scan of
that folder and see if it will allow you to try and remove the virus.

You need to turn off system restore to delete all the restore backups,
reboot and turn system restore back on.
The virus is in a restore file and cannot be manually removed.

Hi

The PC will have to rebooted again so that SR can create a new Point.

Greetings --

To clear viruses from the "System Volume Information," simply turn
off the System Restore feature (Start > All Programs > Accessories >
System Tools > System Restore, System Restore Settings), reboot, and
then re-enable System Restore, if you like. This will delete all of
your Restore Points, including the corrupted one(s), and allow you
start with a clean slate.

However, if you have Restore Points that you'd really rather not
lose, and know which one is corrupted, very carefully:

Hi Bruce

If SR is re-enabled, the PC needs to be rebooted again so that SR can create a new Point. A manual Point can be created, but IMHO, it is better for SR to create that initial new Point itself with the 2nd reboot.

You're right, there should have been one more "reboot" in there,
shouldn't there? Thanks you catching my slip-up.

NP, Bruce. I've seen a lot of postings recently that do not advocate the 2nd reboot. Not enabling the 2nd reboot will result in the next SR Point being created 'within the next 24 hours' - which possibly isn't the best solution.

Hope you have a great Christmas.
