I have Windows XP Media Center Edition and have just downloaded &
installed AVG Vsn 8.5 free anti virus program.
Installation appears to be successful and the original computer scan
by the program was completed successfully.

However, when I attempt to update for new anti virus definitions, I
get error message UPDATE FAILED, connection with update server failed.

I am able to connect onto the internet and also onto AVG site on the
internet.

Has anyone received this error message and been able to update the
definitions? If so, what was done to do this sucessfully.?

best, Aaron

Quite common for me in UK.
Just ignore it and sometime later it updates OK.

If that doesn't happen for you then there may be a clash with another
application.
Had that too and someone on the forum told me which one
In my case a software firewall which I uninstalled.

Good luck

They're not quite the same. I found AVG 8 to slow down file opening and
switched to Avira. AVG 7 used to be fine.
