AVG vs. Norton - a few questions

I'm asking this for my grandmother who is considering switching from
Norton anti-virus to AVG free edition.

I read that AVG (free) uses less memory than Norton anti-virus on Win
XP, is this true? I use AVG and it seems like version 7 uses more than
Norton, but I'm not sure.

Does AVG has the capability to heal viruses? I read that it doesn't but
I thought it did.

Can anyone tell me if AVG lacks anything important that Norton has?

BTW, if you/your grandmother decide to dump Norton/Symantec, you will
probably have to download one or more tools to totally remove it from
your system. Most AV apps don't like the remnants of other AV apps,
particularly Norton, hanging around.

FWIW, I use KAV. Many people around here like:

Free: AVG or Avast
Paid: NOD32 or KAV

If you have an earlier version of NAV, say 2003 and earlier, the memory
usage wasnt to bad, but 2004/05 is really bad, and substantially worse then
avg7. This is most notable on a system with low memory. A winxp system with
only 256mb of memory will slow to a crawl with nav 2004 or 05 but work no
problem with avg7.

Yes it does heal viruses, but its interface is not as good for doing so as
it was, ie. if it fails to fix the virus, it leaves an ambigious message.

Well, AVG generally 'works', NAV has a habit of turning itself off, becoming
deactivates or just not updating. You would be surprised how many users of
NAV have never ever updated their virus definitions.
