AVG Suf-Shield boxes on google driving me crazy

I use AVG-Free (latest version) with XP SP3.

I have AVG Link Scanner: Search Shield and Surf Shield enabled, and I
like them because I think they protect me from infected webpages,
but....

When I have a search results list in Google, AVG keeps displaying
medium-size green boxes and big-size page-image boxes that cover
almost the entire right half of the screen!, unless I'm very careful
where I put the cursor. I have to come at links like an Allied Army
brigade outflanking the German Army, coming in from the side or rear.
It's not as tiring as being in the infantry, but I'd like to get rid
of the boxes without getting rid of Search Shield and Surf Shield.

I can't find anything about this in the Advanced Settings.

No cure, but a possible alternative: I use Bit Defender add-on with
Firefox, plus Web of Trust (WOT) as a guide to badness of sites. WOT
depends on user ratings, I;ve npoticed a few semi- or quasi-political
sites rated as evil, presumably opponents mounted trashing campaign, but
otehwrrise WOT seems to be reliable enough when checking google hits.

I hate webforums but I broke down and went to AVG's. It wasn't a
discussion group afaict, only an FAQ, none of which dealt with this.

And I had to register even to see that. But after registering, they
let me call their help line, for the next 15 minutes, for free, even
though I'm using AVG-free.

They got my phone-number I'm afraid, and I hope they don't sell it.
He was very polite and even though I tried to make it as quick as
possible, he spent 5 or 10 minutes on me, searching the kb he said,
and coming back with an article that he seemed to really believe
linked to an article that would help. But it didn't. AFAICT, even if
you pay for AVG, you are stuck with these big boxes.

But back at the FAQ, it did allow for a comment, so I made the most
persuasive case I could for making these boxes optional.


I was going to turn off search shield and/or surf shield, but just
then a friend got badly infected at a website, iirc.

Maybe bit defender and wot are the answer.

I have AVG 2011, the paid for version.

My Shield boxes are only about 1"x3". How come yours are so large?

I'm using Win XP Pro with 1440 x 900 resolution. Maybe your
resolution setting is the problem? Anyway, the shield only comes up
when you place your cursor on the green star following the URL. At
least that's what it looks like on my comp.

I forget what mine is, but it's really the best one for me.

If I only had to avoid the green star, I'd been in good shape.

This is wrong time to reply to you, because something happened last
night and avg keeps updating when I click on update, but never becomes
active. If they don't fix it, I may start a thread on that soon.

P&M (maybe) because it's been so long.
