AVG question - how do you turn off scheduled tests?

I'm not finding any checkbox or any other way off shutting it off.

Hi

Open the AVG Control Centre and click on the Scheduler box. Then click on
the Scheduled Tasks button. Then select Test Plan in Basic mode, then Edit
Schedule. Next uncheck the "Periodically start scheduled anti virus test"
and finally (phew) click ok...

I've posted before about how clunky the new interface is compared to version
6 and this is another example of how unintuitive the program has become as a
result.

Something else I don't like is that once a full virus scan is complete it
doesn't automatically display the test result. Seems plain daft to me.
Other than that, I've used AVG for a good few years now and overall I'm
still happy/sticking with it.

I agree, don't understand why they left this out.

I agree... it was wonderfully simple and direct in version 6

Yep, looks like they made a seperate settings dialogue for each
function, rather than one main settings dialogue with multiple tabs.
Hard to see why they would think they made things better by doing
that.

Anyway, thanks for responding.

While on the topic of AVG...

I downloaded the latest update and since then have been unable to get the
mail (using latest version of PopTray). AVG pops up a little box and it just
sort of hangs there and pops up another box with error.
Went into the control center and turned off Email Scanner Plug-In...now it
works just fine.
Anyone else having this type of problem with the latest update of AVG?

the reason for this is that it seems that every part is a seperate dll
or something and so are loaded by the avg framework. this allows them to
update diffrent parts at diffrent times. a tabbed interface would
require all of them to share interface code.

allso its a nice way to get a feel for what parts are turned on or off
(or have some sort of problem). just look for a red bar on top of a box :)

Ouch. I have AVG 7 ready to install. I'm not going to upgrade now.

Hi Dugie

The only problem with sticking with V6 is that you probably wont be able to
keep up to date with the latest virus definitions...as bad as the new
interface is I'd personally recommend upgrading to V7.

I switched from Norton to AVG7Free, and I was able to get mail OK, but
I could not send mail through any SMTP server except my primary ISP.
For all my other accounts I got login errors. When I turned off
"outgoing" scanning everything worked fine. Oddly, K9 now seems to
miss a number of spam messages each time I check mail. It's not that
K9 doesn't classify them correctly, it's that K9 doesn't see them at
all. When obvious spam shows up in my inbox and I open K9, those
messages aren't even listed in K9's recent mail window. I assume there
is some kind of proxy conflict between AVG and K9, but it's hard to
track down. On any mail check K9 will catch some spam messages and
miss others which are almost identical.
