I have just changed from a wired network to a wireless network and now for
some reason I cannot update my AVG anti-virus software, it may have nothing
to do with switching to wireless network but I am not sure.

When I try to update, it finds the update that I need; in this case a
priority update, but it will not download it. When it tries to download it,
I get the following error message:-

"An error occurred when trying to connect to the server. The server name
cannot be converted to the IP address."

Has anyone else had this message? How can I fix it?

I hope you can help me.

I appreciate any help or information given.

Thanks!

I have had this happen to me in the past on a wired network. Their server
"burped" at the wrong time. Try again in about an hour. If this doesn't
work, go to their website and download the update file and run it from your
desktop. The next time you try and there is an update it should work.

No idea how to fix it, but it sounds like a DNS lookup problem of some
kind. If browsing works ok, then I don't see how your wireless setup
can have any impact on it.

If it doesn't get fixed you can manually update.
Go here http://free.grisoft.com/doc/24/lng/us/tpl/v5
Download the priority update, remember what folder it went to
Make sure your computer date and time are correct (AVG needs to know)
Launch the AVG Control Center, select the Update Manger button,
then press the "properties" button at the bottom of the window
UNcheck the option "do not ask for update source" and click "apply"
Click the Update button at the bottom of the window and find the folder
you put the download in.
Click OK and AVG will update (unless it's already up to date)
Remember that you've set AVG for manual updates. You'll have to
undo that if you want to update via the Internet again.

That sounds like a DNS problem. Something changed when you switched
routers. Are there any other problems w/ surfing or emails? Are you
using DHCP?

Try downloading the latest version of the program right from the
manufacturers site, it's in our software section along with another
free option.

Add the following line to your Windows hosts file:

212.67.74.214 guru.grisoft.com # get updates from download.grisoft.cz

Downloading the latest version of the program could make a difference,
it's in the software section of our site, direct from the vendor.
