This is probably a stupid question.
I have AVG running on XP, but I can't figure out how to command a scan on
demand.
Can anyone help?

Right click on AVG in taskbar and select "..control panel" When the control
panel appears, select Scan. I don't hae AVG any more, so I'm guessing as to
what you should see.

You can always go to the AVG website and download the manual.

I have the free version, but I'm guessing it's the same answer:

Right-click on the four-color square icon in the notifiction area and
select "Launch AVG Test Center". When the test center appears, click
the big square btton next to "Scan Computer". :-)

Right click the AVG icon in the Taskbar and left click "Launch AVG Test
Center". From there, things are obvious.

You can also double click the AVG icon in the Notification Area (next to the
clock), Click on the Test Center button on the left. Look around a little
while your there. You might even click on Help Topics button.

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Thanks. I was selecting "Control Center". You'd think that should work too.

I agree it may not be obvious, but there is a "Test Center" button on
the Control Center.

Someone suggested using the help system. I'm not sure how helpful it
is in this case. When I searched "scan" I got way too many topics,
none of which seemed right. When I tried "scan computer", then the
fifth or sixth entry in the third pane was actually what I wanted. I
think that's probably more the fault of the way the Windows help
program works than it is of Grisoft -- finding almost anything in XP
help seems harder than it was in Win 98 help.
