I'm getting this message returned as an email after sending emails to people
that I email with regularly. The message is as follows:

This is the AVG E-mail Scanner program.

I'm sorry to have to inform you that the message returned
below could not be delivered to one or more destinations.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Cannot open smtp connection to '64.246.130.36'
Receive: : The operation completed successfully. (0)

It is always the same ip address. Can anyone tell me what that IP address
is for and why suddenly I'm getting mail returned.

Thanks,
Ed

Open the AVG Control Center, double-click “Email Scanner”, and click the
Properties button. Select the Servers tab. The SMTP server will be shown
as something like: “SMTP: Host:Automatic.” Select it and click Delete,
then close AVG. This will stop the errors that occur when sending mail,
as outgoing mail will no longer be sent via AVG. If AVG is working, it
will detect a virus before it activates anyway, so there is no point in
scanning outgoing mail, it's just a potential cause of problems.

In answer to your other question:
<http://dnsstuff.com/tools/whois.ch?ip=64.246.130.36>

Are you sending mail to inoc.net in Albany, NY?
Are they your mailhost?

It is a mail server, mail.catskill.net. Using tracert command in a
command prompt, you can identify the URL from the address, e.g. "tracert
64.246.130.36"). The trace will not complete, but the URL is correct.

Thanks to all that replied. I found I could disable AVG from certifying
outgoing mail in the configuration screen rather than deleting the server as
you suggest. Now, mail still goes through AVG, which I actually like for
one reason, that I will explain. But now the mail doesn't get certified and
seems to go through just fine.

The reason that I like the mail to go through AVG, is that I use AutoCAD.
When you email directly out of AutoCAD, for some reason, you can't use the
program while its emailing. These are large files that can take a couple of
minutes to upload. I used to be locked out of AutoCAD during this process.
Now, AutoCAD transmits to AVG in about a second, which then leaves me free
to use AutoCAD, while AVG actually handles the upload. Works so nice.

Yes, it is catskill. Thanks for the lesson.
