I'm using an updated free version of AVG. When a scan is running the "main"
AVG window is active and on top of that is the "Test is running" window. I
can't find a way to relocate the main window so I can get to the desktop
icons. Can't drag it, and if I try to minimize it, to the taskbar, the
program closes. No problem moving the "Test is running" window.

Suggestions?

Thanks, Bud (in Oceanside, Ca.)

Welcome to the world of windows. The main window is disabled while the
scanning dialog is open. It's standard windows programming....

Well, actually, I never have any trouble with minimizing it. Minimize the
"Test is running" window and the main one behind it also minimises.

That wasn't very smart of me. I didn't notice that little minimizes AVG over
in the corner just above the taskbar.

Thank you Shane for setting me straight!!!

No, it is a choice - by the programmer - whether to use modal or
non-modal child windows; see
http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/Modal window. If modal, the
parent window is unusable until the child window is closed. If
non-modal, you can still use the parent window while the child window is
open. Don't blame Microsoft for providing an API that lets the
programmer select modal or non-modal. Blame the programmer for using a
modal window *if* it wasn't appropriate. I don't have experience with a
majority of all Windows software to know if using modal windows is a
"standard" practice among programmers.

Im not using avg now so cant test this path however if i remember correctly
you can do a complete scan without opening the main avg interface using this
path.

"C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG6\AVGW.EXE" /NOSPLASH/PLAN/NTEST

Make a shortcut on desktop and enter the path .If i remember correctly it
will start the complete scan without the main window.
