I've been using this for some time without any negative results. It has
little overhead and doesn't drag my system or other applications down. I
don't use version 7 so I have not experienced the same thing as another
poster in this ng.

Of course it is free., so keep that in mind.

AVG 6 has intercepted anything that has come my way so far. Remember, it's
an anti virus tool not a spam/spy/firewall/anything else tool. I use Spybot,
Adaware, Polesoft Lockspam, Mailwasher, Kerio, ZApro for the rest. I reckon
one program to do a specific job when you want it to is better for overheads
than one humungous program that tries to do everything all the time. I've
been safe so far.

I use 7 on XP, quite OK but the email scanner got confused when I tried to
scan two mail identities.
I use 6 on 98SE because 7 causes problems of freezing during updates and
sometimes when scanning.
Properly updated, combined with safe hex, its caught everything before I
have.

I've tried AVG and Norton, and Symantec.... I have fallen in love with
avast!... I am not saying it is the end all and be all of virus scanners,
but I am VERY happy with it

A company can't continue to give its product away without having income from
other sources. If professionals or businesses don't purchase from AVG, they
may not be around. Where would the updates come from?

Yes, I experienced the same thing. I have around 6 pop3 accounts. Some
emails sometime end in wrong mailbox.

Also, they should take the issue with SMTP authentication seriously. The
AVG tells that the message was sent, but apparently it's rejected by SMTP
server. You won't know about this unless you open the AVG's mail log (if
you activate it). But, you won't open the mail log each time after you send
the mail.

BTW, I talk about the personal mail scanner pulgins here.

I am also very pleased with Avast! after using Norton, AVG, Antivir,
Nod32 and others over the years.

I will say that NOD32 seems to be the BEST, but not considering the cost
of updates and so forth.
I get Avast! for free and that means something.
