Running Windows 98SE, AVG7 Free Edition, Thunderbird.

I've installed AVG7 Free Edition and from within the Control Center, the
Email Scanner is shown to be fully functional. On that basis, I
thought I had nothing more to do as all my incoming mail would be
automatically scanned.

However, I have come across the following article:

http://www.j79zlr.com/howto.php?id=11

In this article, it states that it IS necessary to manually configure
the AVG Email Scanner so that my incoming (and/or outgoing) email is
checked.

So now I am somewhat confused. Can any Thunderbird uses please advise
if it really is necessary to manually configure the Email Scanner or do
I accept the statement in the Control Center that the scanner is indeed
fully functional?

Thanks in advance.

Im on Win XP Thunderbird AVG Free.

I never manually set up it did it automatically, I presume its working
as a note is added to the bottom of all my incoming emails saying
scanned by AVG.

Win2000 Pro, TB, AVG7 Free ... same here ... no TB
configuration changes required.

It is indeed fully functional here.

Email scanning can be enabled/disabled at Control Center/
Email Scanner/Properties/config. Also, you can enable/disable
labeling
of incoming/outgoing mail messages with "This message contains
no virus" (or something like that)
You can test email scanning using Eicar test Virus. It is not
a real virus but is written to make the scanners think it is.
I included Eicar in on of my outgoing messages. AVG7 caught it.
I disabled AVG7 mail scanning and did the same thing again.
My ISP mail scanner caught it.

I think I had a similar issue with my new machine.
Try uninstalling both, then install Thunderbird
first. If the email program is already up and
configured, I believe AVG will see it and set
itself up during install. I think I did it the
other way and couldn't get AVG to recognize
Thunderbird. I also use both. Hope this helps....
